  • Notes
    • As written by his sister Ruth Alice Powley Delaney in July 2000 as
memories of her brother. (This is
only a small part of what she wrote). He entered the service in July
1942, was trained at Port Huron, Harsen's Island, and Engine School in
Detroit. He was assigined to the engine room on the destroyer escort
      U.S.S. Leopold.
He loved being on the ship, liked his work in the engine room, read a lot
as there was an extensive library on board ship. And there was always
his trumpet especially if he could get a group to play with him.
....they were in submarine infested waters and a torpedo from a sub cut
the ship in two. He was Only 24 years old when he died. He was an
excellent writer and he might have written professionally someday if he
had lived. (The rest of the story is on the CD #66). [5]
